If you're a first-timer who wants to be standing up by the end of the first hour, or an intermediate who keeps falling on the pop-up and wants someone to actually film it and tell you why, a private lesson is the move.
Your instructor picks the beach for the conditions on the day — Playa Carmen for mellow beginner waves, Playa Hermosa when there's a clean smaller swell, Mal País Point for intermediates ready for a real wall.
Sunrise sessions (6 AM start) and sunset sessions are the best surf in Santa Teresa — light winds, fewer surfers, golden light for photos. Just ask when you book.
